In 2025, the Villa Datris Foundation invites visitors to discover the work of 64 committed women artists from around the world through an exhibition of works that question major contemporary issues. Feminists, ecofeminists, human rights advocates, activists against racism, and defenders of bodily autonomy—these selected artists embody struggles that remain as vital as ever.

The exhibition sheds light on the invisibilization of women and the ongoing nature of their struggles, reminding us how crucial it is to safeguard hard-won rights. ENGAGÉES also aims to raise awareness where many battles still need to be fought.

For too long ignored and denied recognition, women artists were dominated by patriarchal societies and erased from the history of art. It was not until the social movements and feminist struggles of the 1960s that they began to gain visibility—not only as artists but also as women. This legacy has left a lasting mark on the artists of that time and those of subsequent generations, paving the way for greater recognition of both their demands and their art.
