Dormant Spell (2025)

Inspired by passive rewilding and winter flora, Dormant Spell brings together plants and fungi to form an isolated ecosystem on a section of the gallery’s upper floor.

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition Être collectif — De la convivialité par nature, on Wednesday, December 10, Felipe Vasquez activates the work by merging with it, as though his body had been overtaken by the elements after a long sleep. This durational performance explores nature’s ability to reclaim territory as soon as human intervention ceases, as well as parasitic growth modes: haustorial fungi in plants, or entomopathogenic fungi such as cordyceps, which infect insects and produce spore-bearing formations reminiscent of the structural proliferations observed in rewilding sites.

After the performance, the installation continues to evolve, revealing the slow yet persistent vitality of its resilient biome. It reshapes itself around the faded imprint of the human body—like abandoned ruins or a decomposed corpse, marked by time and by nature’s return.
