Overview
Palexpo, Genève Booth B48

For this new edition of Art Genève, Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire brings together two artists whose practices engage in a dialogue around materiality and metamorphosis. British artist Kate McGwire and emerging French artist Clara Rivault meet in a shared exploration of the boundaries between the organic and the conceptual.

Kate McGwire works through intensive processes of collecting, sorting, and cleaning feathers to create forms that evoke classical sculpture and mythological creatures. These structures explore aesthetic dualities: they are at once alluring and unsettling; simultaneously organic and abstract in form; and imbued with a sense of movement.

Drawing on a diverse academic background, Clara Rivault explores a range of complex traditional techniques related to the fire arts. Specializing in stained glass, the artist commits to this lengthy creative process, initiated through photographic sampling that she dismantles, then recomposes and crystallizes, in order to propose a narrative in which mythologies and the real world intertwine. Careful observation of organic materials and living tissues feeds a palette of forms and textures that the artist infuses into glass, giving them a sculptural dimension.

This duo questions notions of transformation and metamorphosis, not only within matter itself, but also within our perception. Through the interweaving of their works, a space emerges in which the boundaries between reality and imagination, the organic and the artificial, are deliberately blurred.
