For her first solo exhibition at the gallery, French photographer Marie Quéau presents a new body of work on the ground floor of the gallery’s historic space at 17 rue des Filles du Calvaire, bringing together works from her series Le Royaume and FURY. In both, the artist explores the transformations of the body confronted with situations of upheaval, where the boundaries between fiction and reality, control and surrender, the individual and the collective become blurred. Drawing on real-life events that she transforms into visual narratives, her photography stages anonymous figures engaged in rituals, performances, or extreme experiences. Bodies covered in mud, stunt performers, motion-capture actors, freedivers, and participants in fury rooms form an enigmatic community whose suspended gestures question our relationship to violence, vulnerability, and the construction of the self. Between archaic memory and contemporary imagination, Marie Quéau turns the body into a territory where the tensions of a constantly changing world are revealed.

For the series FURY, the artist received the LE BAL / ADAGP Award and support from the documentary photography programme of the Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP).
