Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire presents a new exhibition dedicated to the work of Charles Fréger at its space at 21 rue Chapon. Bringing together photographs and videos from several series — La Suite basque, L’Épopée de Jeanne d’Arc, La Préhistoire, Souvenir d’Alsace, ATP/Les Normandes and Kalevipoeg — the exhibition spans more than ten years of the artist’s practice and reveals a lesser-known aspect of his work: his use of silhouettes and his exploration of the representation of historical narratives. At the heart of this body of work, the silhouette becomes a space for projection: the figures photographed appear as familiar presences, imbued with history. Charles Fréger explores the invention of imagery, its transmission, and the imaginaries it carries.
