Corinne Mercadier | Le ciel commence ici

18 March - 30 April 2016 17 rue des Filles du Calvaire 75003 Paris

"The artist sets out to define something like a magnetic field."

In 2012, the exhibition Devant un champ obscur dialectised two series: Solo, which featured characters and objects, captured in geometrically designed desert spaces, and Black Screen, a series of negative images of ghostly interiors. Le ciel commence ici (The sky begins here) follows in the footsteps of Solo, but also of La Suite d'Arles (The Suite of Arles), made in 2003 on remarkable roofs in the city of Arles. Indeed, the shots of this new series also take place on roofs. They are diverse in their architecture, their history and the views they offer on the landscape: for the moment Deauville, the Observatory of Paris, the Castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, some roofs around the Opera of Paris and the Castle of Chambord have been explored by the artist.

As for the title Le ciel commence ici, it plays with the title of the series Où commence le ciel ? (1995-1996), a response - a wink - to this question asked twenty years ago.
