Maya Inès Touam | Musée d'Art Moderne, Fontevraud-L'abbaye, France

06.06 — 04.12.2026 | Exposition de groupe

On the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of photography, the exhibition Chambre noire, toile blanche. Photography Facing Painting offers an extensive journey through two centuries of experimentation, dialogue, and mutual influence between photography and painting. Installed at the Musée d’Art Moderne and extended into the spaces of the Royal Abbey, it explores the ongoing porosity between these two major media, shaped by borrowing, appropriation, and reciprocal reinvention.

The exhibition creates a back-and-forth between historical and contemporary works, in which photographers and painters respond to one another across time. Photography appears both influenced by painting and actively transforming it, redefining notions of representation and composition.

The work of Maya Inès Touam is part of this dialogue between image and painting. Her practice explores the connections between memory, identity, and the construction of representations through a sensitive and symbolic approach to the image. Through the rigor of her compositions and the richness of her visual references, she establishes a true dialogue with painting, where each image becomes a space for reflection on cultural heritage and intimate narratives.
